Redneck Repair

You know that website, There, I Fixed It? I love seeing the creative, although sometimes unsafe, solutions people come up with for problems they have. Well I totally had a moment this weekend where I did exactly that. We got a new desk and I was moving all our components into it and one thing that bothered me about the last one were the wires. I strongly dislike seeing the wires behind the desk and the mess they create. 

So I knew with this desk I had to find a solution.  And let me just add that I know this isn't even that bad. Luckily this desk has a built in way to hid wires, the last one didn't at all.

 This is what was left after I pushed them all over the the side.

And what exactly did I use?

hehe. A toilet paper roll. So in case anyone else has the strange desire to do the same, I started by cutting the roll down the length. Then stapling it to the back of the desk. Once I looped the wires through the tube I stapled the tube closed to hold the wires.

I used two tubes to hold the wires above the desk opening and route them behind the desk.

All better. Deep breathe.

My Most Recent Project

Well I have been working on a bunch of things lately. Mostly the house and it's coming together nicely. We just finished painting the master bedroom so I finally get to move stuff in and arrange it all. I know I owe you some pictures of the downstairs now that it's done too.It's nothing fancy. Just home.

The other project I've been working on has been on going for a while now.

Yep that's right. Cub #2 is on it's way. Actually almost half way here. I don't know what took me so long to post the news but I'm 20 weeks along and feeling good. I get really tired but seriously who doesn't when they're moving into a new house, unpacking, and cleaning up after a little guy.

So here I am last week.

We go in tomorrow for the 20 week ultrasound, but we are going to be surprised as far as gender goes (my husband's idea). Which is really going to kill me since there are so many things I'd love to make if it's a girl and how do you decorate a nursery when you don't know the gender? I'm finding some ideas, but you pretty much need to make everything because anything in the store is so gender specific. 

Anyway, that's what I've been working on lately. I'm also going to do a couple maternity refashions soon. I'm just finishing getting my sewing table all set up in our room.

Recent Thrifing Scores

Our house is coming together finally! The downstairs is pretty much visitor ready, just don't wander upstairs yet. 

So a couple weeks ago I dragged my husband garage sale-ing with me on a Saturday morning. He seemed reluctant at first until we happened upon score after score. We visited the ATM on 3, yes 3 separate occasions. Needless to say I was not expecting to spend much, but my husband sure made out like a bandit. He had a great time after all was said and done. Among his scores were a gently used treadmill (much cheaper than his gym membership), 2 arm chairs for our living room, a fun restaurant style high chair for our son or visitors, a camping chair for our son, and some cute clothes for him. All I got were some Dr.Seuss books and storage drawers.Boring.

Here is what the chairs look like. They are both in excellent condition and they recline!

I made up for it a few days later though. I needed to find some fabric for the purse I made at craft club. I was on my way to Joann, but decided to take a look at Hancock on my way. Soooo glad I did. They had an amazing sale on knits and I could not help myself! 

I plan on making at least one summer skirt and probably a dress of some sort.

On another day when I had the car I stopped by Goodwill and made a few more awesome finds!

A lamp for $1.50.

 This tunic dress/shirt thing. I'm planning on shortening it and using the extra for embellishments $3.

 And this skirt, which had my mind all confuzzled for a second.

 It is labeled size 4 but was more like a 24. I guess the elastic had gotten stretched or something. Either way it was cheaper because of that and it gives me more fabric to work with.

I'll keep you posted on the transformations and once I wash my heaping pile of dishes I will gladly take pictures of how our downstairs has turned out.
