A quick craft before I leave

Well I'm getting ready to leave for girl's camp tomorrow for the rest of the week. It should be tons of fun, but I've never left the little man for that long. So for a little present for him, I whipped up a fun pillowcase for him to sleep with.

I used the tutorial from MADE and whipped this up in about 45 minutes. It only took that long because the little guy wanted to help, otherwise this was so easy. The little guy loves Cars even though he's only seen a little bit of the movie he gets really excited any time he sees these characters on clothes or pictures.

Hope everyone has a great week! I know I will!

Chalkboard Contact Paper?!?!

Did you know such a thing existed? I didn't until a few weeks ago. I don't remember where I read about it, on an awesome blog no doubt, but as soon as I knew it existed I ordered a roll. (Find it Here) So my first project was my pantry organization.

A couple months ago I found some awesome containers at Walmart on clearance! A set of three for $2!! I kept having to go back because I kept finding more and more uses for them.

So finally I've got it all put together. The containers, the labels, baskets to organize. It is so much better than our apartment pantry. That one just had wire shelves and they were deep. So there was just a heap of stuff piled to the back and I really couldn't find anything. Wish I had a picture, but I'm sure you know what I'm talking about.

Our new pantry is a walk-in pantry with lots of shallow shelves. So I started by printing up three different size templates for my labels, one for each size container.

Traced it onto the back of the contact paper

Cut out and applied to the containers

 and labeled with chalk

I love this product! It wipes off really easily and really works like a chalkboard. The only thing I would do different is use a chalk marker so it doesn't rub off as easily. I want the option to be able to change what the container is used for, but sometimes when I grab something out of the pantry.

I love an organized pantry. So nice! What do you do to keep your pantry organized?

Redneck Repair

You know that website, There, I Fixed It? I love seeing the creative, although sometimes unsafe, solutions people come up with for problems they have. Well I totally had a moment this weekend where I did exactly that. We got a new desk and I was moving all our components into it and one thing that bothered me about the last one were the wires. I strongly dislike seeing the wires behind the desk and the mess they create.

So I knew with this desk I had to find a solution.  And let me just add that I know this isn't even that bad. Luckily this desk has a built in way to hid wires, the last one didn't at all.
This is what was left after I pushed them all over the the side.

And what exactly did I use?
hehe. A toilet paper roll. So in case anyone else has the strange desire to do the same, I started by cutting the roll down the length. Then stapling it to the back of the desk. Once I looped the wires through the tube I stapled the tube closed to hold the wires.
I used two tubes to hold the wires above the desk opening and route them behind the desk.
All better. Deep breathe.
