DIY Framed Jewelry Organizer

Nothing like a little friend get together to get some crafting done! Woo hoo!

One of my friends has been wanting to do something to organize her jewelry and proposed it as our craft project this month.

I took a frame that I’ve repurposed once before (as a ribbon holder) and added an Ikea cork placemat and 4 little hooks. In total it cost me $1 for the placemat. I simply cut the placemat down to fit and stapled it in.



Then I cut out some cardboard to put behind the cork for more support. On the bottom of the frame, I screwed in 4 small cup hooks.



I hung it up in my closet and it got me thinking, do people normally paint walk-in closets? For some reason I was feeling like it needed some color in there, but is that totally strange? lol



I filled it with my jewelry.



And I noticed I have a style; lots of hearts,



lots of pearls, and a few sparkles here and there.



There you go! It was really simple and fast. I am happy to have my jewelry a little more accessible so I can remember to wear some! lol

Valentine's Day Necklace

In case you missed it, I guest posted on Blissful and Domestic! Here is the cute Valentine's necklace I shared...enjoy!!

To tell the truth I’m not much for Valentine’s Day. For one, my birthday is a little before Valentine’s Day and without fail I always get something pink or with hearts. I’m not a pink kinda girl. haha.

So anyway, I don’t normally decorate or do anything special for the day. But I was in the mood to make something so I decided to make a necklace. Kinda like the Mother’s Day necklace I made last year.

All you need is wire and a couple beads (and wire cutters)

I cut off a little bit of wire and formed it into a heart.

I took another length of wire and wrapped it in and out and around the heart form and included the beads.

I finished it off with a loop and a chain.

I also tried another method of just wrapping the wire in a heart shape without weaving in and out. Then like the bird’s nest I wrapped it around a couple times.

Either way it makes an easy and cute accessory for your hot date night or a great gift for someone you love! Have a great Valentine's Day!

Mother's Day Birthstone Necklace

If you're not my mom, keep reading for a super cute Mother's day gift idea.

I found this inspiration on Pinterest several weeks ago and knew I wanted to make this for my mom for mother's day.

The great thing is they are super simple and take about 20 minutes or less.

Sarah Ortega, gives a great tutorial on how to make this necklace. Here is how I made mine, which is pretty much the same. I used birthstone beads for each of the grand kids in the necklace above.

Start by threading the beads on the wire

Tuck the end of the wire around the last bead

Then slide the rest of the beads back down to cover the end (sorry for the blurry photo, darn camera)

Next arrange them in a group how you'd like

Begin wrapping the wire around in a circle and start forming your nest

Then wrap around the edge a couple times if you like this look

With or without the wrapped edges

There you go, a super cute and super easy gift for your mom, grandma, sister, friend, yourself :-D

Wood Bead Necklace Tutorial

Sorry it took so long to get all of these directions up, Andrew was a bit under the weather after his doctors appointment and subsequent blood test (bleh) this week. Oh can I just say he did amazing with getting his blood drawn, he hardly even noticed while I'm sitting there trying not to pass out since I'm holding him!

Anyway all is well and I've finally got pictures of the steps for each of the necklaces I made for the craft club, enjoy.

This one is pretty straight forward, but I love that there are so many different ways you can personalize this one. (source of inspiration here)You'll need: wood beads, ribbon, and paint/spray paint. Also jump rings from the jewelry section are optional, I'll explain later... So start with some wood beads, any size you like and any combination of sizes. I got a large package of 5/8", a package of 3/4" and a package of 1". I actually mistakenly got dolls head for the 3/4"...that means they only had a hole part way through...grrr. Well I just got out my drill and fixed that so either make sure you grab beads or be ready to whip out the power tools. :D
Next paint or spray paint them any color. I went with paint because I had it on hand, but when it was done I didn't like the matte finish. Luckily I had some semi-gloss wood finish in a spray can on hand from when I refinished my kitchen chairs. That really helped the look a lot so I recommend either a gloss finish over the paint or spray paint it with a gloss or semi gloss to begin with. (see V and Co's original post here for a great way to spray paint the beads). I put my beads on a BBQ skewer and painted them like that, it worked pretty well.

After the beads have been painted (and finished if that's what you choose) and they are plenty dry start threading them onto the ribbon in whatever pattern you would like.

ORhere is where the jump rings could come in handy.
I was thinking it would be cool to get the most out of this necklace to paint the beads a neutral color and then have a changeable ribbon. So instead of threading the beads onto the ribbon, thread them with a needle and thread instead and tie both sides to a jump ring.

I double my thread over twice and tied it to one jump ring and then threaded my beads on.

I put a bit of hot glue on the end to make sure the jump ring doesn't rotate. If it does and the seam comes to the thread it could slip off.

Finished with jump rings.

Cut two strips of ribbon a good length for each side and loop them onto the jump rings.

When its all done you can got even further in personalizing it if you'd like and make a pendant of your initial...

Or of different shapes... obviously here it isn't attached, but simply drill a hole through it and attach it with a jump ring.
